Chelsea Handler Makes Another Move in the Cannabis Space and Invests in Civilized

After joining Civilized on several projects in the cannabis space last year, including her first speaking appearance in Canada, Chelsea Handler has taken yet another leap with the upstart lifestyle brand: she’s signed on as an investor. The best-selling author, comedian and activist has appeared in nearly a dozen Civilized events across Canada and the U.S., and regularly shares the stage with Civilized Publisher Derek Riedle at cannabis events.

“Cannabis has made a difference in my life, in the lives of my friends and people who have been reintroduced to it. Working with Civilized, I’ve seen how passionate they are about smashing outdated cannabis stereotypes while keeping people entertained, and it’s been a real inspiration,” says Handler. “It’s more than just a media company, it’s a movement. And one I’m proud to be a part of.”

Civilized’s history with Chelsea Handler dates back to mid 2018 when she was a keynote speaker at the exclusive World Cannabis Congress and joined Riedle for an on-stage conversation for attendees. That conversation inspired a successful cross-Canada speaking tour: “A Civilized Conversation with Chelsea Handler”, just weeks ahead of cannabis legalization in Canada. The tour made national headlines for its fresh approach to transforming the cannabis narrative and challenging outdated stereotypes.

“We’ve had a great relationship with Chelsea over the short time we’ve known her. She’s been an enthusiastic supporter of our mission to reimagine cannabis culture through smart content and meaningful events,” says Derek Riedle, Publisher of Civilized. “She’s a true friend to the Civilized brand and we’re thrilled to have her on board as an investor.”
